US Army launches AI and machine learning career path for officers. The Army is launching a dedicated career path for officers specializing in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Known as the 49B AI ML Officer, this official area of concentration is designed to accelerate the service's shift toward a data driven, AI enabled force. Implementation will roll out in phases, with first officer selections starting in January 2026. The Army is creating an entire officer specialty around algorithms that make targeting decisions, analyze battlefield data, and coordinate autonomous weapons systems. When militaries create career paths for officers who program machines to make combat decisions, those programs are not about efficiency. Those programs are about removing humans from kill chains so algorithms decide who lives and dies.

Russia expands biometric ID system to include schoolchildren. The Russian government is working on amending federal legislation to allow schools across the country to monitor and identify students using biometrics. Plans for a standardized biometric turnstile system for Russian schools are already being tested. Authorities stressed that schools will be able to choose whether to switch to biometric identification, adding that parents must first consent before their children's faces are scanned and entered into Russia's Unified Biometric System. The Center for Biometric Technologies recently unveiled a new platform for providing biometric services called Migom, meaning instantly. Russians can now use facial recognition to order documents, check into hotels, verify age when purchasing age restricted goods at vending machines, and undergo pre flight security checks. When governments scan children's faces to enter schools while requiring biometric verification to buy energy drinks from vending machines, those systems are not about convenience. Those systems are about normalizing total surveillance from childhood so resistance becomes unthinkable.

Maduro open to US talks on drug trafficking. Venezuelan President Maduro said he is open to talks with the United States to combat drug trafficking, but did not comment on last week's US strikes on a docking facility. Maduro said if the US wants to seriously discuss an agreement to combat drug trafficking, Venezuela is ready. If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for US investment like with Chevron, whenever they want it, wherever they want it, and however they want it. The interview was recorded the same day the US military announced strikes against five alleged drug smuggling boats. The latest attacks bring the number of known boat strikes to 35, while the number of people killed is at least 115. Trump said the United States had knocked out a loading facility linked to Venezuelan drug boats in the first known direct operation in the South American country since boat strikes began. When leaders offer negotiations the same day five more boats get destroyed and 115 total killed, those offers are not diplomatic overtures. Those offers are surrender terms presented while operations continue.
